The 2012 Gloucester All Stars won the Cal Ripken 12/60 major District 1 Championship Tournament last week in Newport News after a three-game showdown with New Kent.
The Gloucester boys won their first tournament game 9-3 over Warwick Moose on June 21. Hunter Martin pitched a four-hitter for the team, Reese Oden had three hits in the win, Grayson Womble had two hits and three RBIs and Carter Miller contributed two hits and two RBIs.
Gloucester got its first win over New Kent 4-1 on June 23, with Brett Lindsay pitching a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts. Womble had a pair of hits and three RBIs. Gloucester was then edged by New Kent 3-2 on June 25, with Lindsay getting three hits in the loss.
In the championship-deciding rematch with New Kent, Gloucester prevailed 10-0. Lindsay got the win on the mound and contributed two hits and four RBIs. Reese Oden, Heath Kelley, Martin and Miller also got hits in the title game. The Gloucester team outscored its opponents 25-7 over four tournam...
