GLENDA VICK FLIPPIN

2/27/1939 – 12/22/2024

Glenda Vick Flippin, 85, of Mathews, passed away on Dec. 22, 2024 at her home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willis Flippin; parents, Willard and Madeline Vick of Newport News; father- and mother-in-law, Morris and Delma Flippin of Mathews; son-in-law, Robert Stubbs of Smithfield.

Glenda was secretary to the Chief of the Newport News police department where she met her husband, Willis Earl, of 35 years. Her faith was very important, a member for 50 years at Bethel UMC, she taught the women’s Sunday school class often and where her deviled eggs became famous. Known to her grandchildren as Gumm, some friends as Peabody, and as Hun to her son, she was a strong, compassionate, knowledgeable, giving and loving, not only to her family and friends but also to her home health care patients and employers where she made lifelong friends, such as Mr. Peterson.

Survived by son, David Flippin (Trudy); daughters, Donna Mathis (Floyd) and Susan Stubbs; grandchildren, Michael and Jeffrey Mathis (Tara), Hayley Stubbs, T.R. Lyerly and Kasey Lynn Moore (Cameron); great-grandchildren, Zachary and Zoey Mathis, Lilly, Emma and Hannah Moore; brothers, Warren Vick (Judy) of Providence Forge, Wayne Vick (Nancy) of Louisville, Ky., and Ronald Vick (Veronica) of Spring, Texas; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, also her very best friend, Ellis and Jean Flippin; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Charles and Jean Ingram; many cousins, nieces, nephews and a very special lifelong friend, Louise Diggs.

We would like to thank everyone from family and friends who have been there for our mom and us. Also, to the doctors and nurses who took care of our mom and supported us during this difficult time.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 26, 2024, from noon to 2 p.m. at Faulkner Funeral Homes, Foster-Faulkner Chapel, Mathews. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home chapel at 2 o’clock. Burial will follow at Milford Cemetery, Moon, Virginia.
