In its most recent round of grants, the Mathews Women’s Giving Circle is awarding $30,000 to the Mathews Family YMCA for the preschool initiative the organization plans to introduce in the county beginning next fall.
The group also gave a $10,000 grant to Mathews County Public Schools to support start-up costs associated with the Mathews High School carpentry program’s Tiny House project, and has awarded the Y a second grant, this one in the amount of $2,000, to support the YMCA Bright Beginnings program.
This is the sixth year that the group has awarded grants to local projects, bringing the total amount of grants over that time in excess of $180,000.
The YMCA’s proposal for a preschool/day care program for 2-, 3- and 4-year-olds was introduced by the Y at the Mathews County School Board’s October meeting.
