GHS women’s first four wins at Darryl Winslow Regatta

The Gloucester High School crew traveled to Occoquan on Saturday to compete in the Darryl Winslow Regatta along with 27 other teams.

With a lineup-changing injury, the GHS first four of Elizabeth Keane, Kendall Worland, Gabby Lauer, Hannah Beverage and coxswain Matt Hendrix won its race by 9/10ths of a second ahead of the rivals from McLean. The men’s first four, also competing with a substitute rower, combined Joel Kidd, Logan Hutson, Russel Simpson and Jeremy Frush with coxswain Johnny Anderson for a sixth-place finish.

The junior four of Brianna Priode, Sara Hood, Mikaela Extine, Hannah Cagle and coxswain Meagan Martin won its heat and was fourth in the final in 6:30.2. The novice eight combo of Kara Smith, Madison Hutson, Maddie Lee, Jenna Proulx, Tia Ilog, Bailey Hamilton, Kassidy Brown, Makenzie Marbain raced up in the freshman eight division and was fifth in the final in 6:05.8.
