The Gloucester High School golf team placed first at Kiln Creek Golf Club & Resort, Newport News, on Sept. 10 by five shots over Menchville. The Dukes, however, dropped their first match of the season at Woodlands Golf Course, Hampton, by a single stroke to Menchville last Thursday.
Gloucester freshman Levi Vannoy won the individual event at Kiln Creek by shooting a two-over par 74 for a one-shot victory over Menchville senior Paul Gere. Vannoy scored back-to-back birdies on the 15th and 16th holes to take the lead for the rest of the match.
Senior Blake Sibley tied for third in the event at four-over par 76 and junior Joseph Moritz tied for fifth at five-over par 77. Sophomore Fenton Scott finished in ninth by shooting 87.
Woodlands
