The Gloucester High School track team excelled and bore the heat this past weekend at the VHSL Class 5-6 State Outdoor Championships, which were held on Friday and Saturday at Todd Stadium in Newport News.
This was their last post-season meet of the season for most of the GHS athletes, while a few will be continuing their seasons during the summer.
On Friday, GHS athletes competed in only one event. The 4x800 relay team of seniors Tanner Baker and Tyler Hicks, junior Clayton Miller and sophomore Rylan Allcorn placed third in their heat and 11th overall. Together, the boys ran a time of 8:32.06.
On Saturday, athletes competed in the 1600 meter run and the 3200 meter run. For the girls, sophomore Mya Baker began the meet with her race in the 3200 meter run. Baker ran a 12:57.29, placing her in 13th overall. Junior Joel Junker was up next to run in the 3200 meter run, where he competed in a very tough heat with athletes in the top 50 in the entire state.
