GHS to begin using weapons detection Monday

Gloucester High School principal Dr. Stefan Mygas announced Tuesday that GHS will begin implementing OpenGate magnetometers, a type of weapons detection device, beginning next week as part of an updated safety screening process for all students and visitors entering the building.
This week, teachers and staff will receive training on the new equipment. Once everyone is familiar with the process, GHS will begin conducting these safety screenings.
Full implementation of this system is anticipated to be completed by Oct. 11. During the initial rollout period, students and families should expect some delays during morning drop-off and entry times as the school works to optimize the process and ensure it runs smoothly and efficiently. Additionally, there may be increased traffic in the mornings, so families are encouraged to plan accordingly to allow for extra time.
Questions or concerns about the new universal screening process can be directed to the GHS front office at 804-693-2526.
