GHS tennis posts 7-2 district record

The Gloucester High School girls finished the Peninsula District tennis schedule with a 7-2 record, putting the Lady Dukes in second place behind undefeated Menchville.

Gloucester experienced its second loss of the regular season on Monday with a 5-4 fall to host Warwick in their final match prior to the district tournament.

On the Raiders’ courts, GHS first seed Christine Riddett won her match in straight 6-1 sets and second seed Olivia Edwards won 6-4, 6-1. Kelsey Lineberry, at number three for the Dukes, lost 6-4, 6-2 but GHS fourth seed Forrest Eversole won in straight 6-4 sets. Katie Masiak at fifth seed lost 7-5, 6-2 and Jordan Simpson at number six lost her first set 6-1, won the second 6-2 but lost the tiebreaker, 10-5.

Riddett and Edwards teamed up to win the first-seed doubles match 8-3 but the second and third-seed doubles matches went to Warwick by scores of 8-0. The district tournament is scheduled to begin today in Huntington Park in Newport News.
