The Gloucester High School boys’ and girls’ swim teams competed in meets on Jan. 13 and 29 at Brittingham-Midtown Community Center in Newport News against nine Peninsula District teams.
Both Gloucester teams came back strong from winter break on Jan. 13, with the girls placing third overall and the boys finishing fifth.
Summer Bayly placed second in the 200-yard individual medley and earned the most points. Rylee Kemnitz and Sophie Thorpe also finished the meet as top point earners.
Camden Hoercher and Auggie Baker were the top point earners for the boys’ team. Mark Siefke, a new addition to the team this season, has earned top times in challenging events such as the 100-yard breaststroke and 100-yard butterfly.
The Lady Dukes took the third-place spot again on Jan. 29. Kendall Carucci earned the most points, followed by Thorpe and Bayly. During this meet, a lot of swimmers achieved their personal bests.
The boys’ team had several swimmers that were unable to compete on Jan. 29, but those who did participate pushed themselves to finish seventh overall. Each swimmer also earned a personal best on an event they swam. Jacob English earned the most points for the Dukes, while Hoercher broke the prior team record in the 500-yard freestyle.
