GHS softball starts season strong

The Gloucester High School varsity softball team defeated Kecoughtan, 4-2, in its first game of the season Tuesday afternoon.
Autumn Cookson pitched a complete game, striking out five batters. She also had three hits, including a double and an RBI.
The Lady Dukes scored three runs in the third inning. At the top of the third, Tessa Carteret achieved a single and Alexis Dishman reached first base on a Kecoughtan error. Cookson followed with an RBI single, while Sam Carlton and Alivia Bruce each drove in a run later in the inning.
Gloucester added another run in the fourth inning as Grace Sinko-VanLiew hit a double and reached home plate on an RBI by Carteret.
Gloucester will host Kecoughtan this afternoon, Thursday, March 14, at home. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30.Next week, the Lady Dukes are scheduled to play four games.
