Gloucester varsity softball players disposed of Heritage, 22-0, on Friday for their second Peninsula District win of the season. Makalya Jenkins pitched a one-hitter, striking out 10 batters while walking one. Gloucester scored 11 first-inning runs, highlighted by a grand slam over the left-field fence from Jenkins. Gabby Zarichny had two hits and 3 RBIs in the win and Colleen Lemay and Hannah Joyce each contributed a triple and a single.
The Gloucester girls opened the season March 13 with a 7-1 win at Bethel. Jenkins pitched a two-hitter, striking out six and walking one Bruin while giving up one unearned run. The Dukes took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and added another run in the second to make it 4-0. Bethel scored its only run in the fourth and the Dukes put the game away with three runs in the sixth inning.
