The Gloucester High School crew won three races, placed second in three others and posted five third-place finishes in Saturday’s Tidewater Regatta at Williams Wharf in Mathews.
The GHS duo of Chris Smith and Jacob Cheatham won the men’s double in 3:04.1. Also placing first was men’s varsity eight of Cheatham, Logan Hutson, Russell Simpson, Taylor Dough, John Lingenfelser, Zach Moore, Aaron Parr, Smith and coxswain Meagan Martin, finishing the course in 4:15.2, a half second ahead of the runners-up.
Also for the Gloucester boys, the varsity four of Cheatham, Hutson, Smith and Dough with Martin as coxswain placed third in 4:52.2. Behind them were the other varsity four rowers, Moore, John Poole, Lingenfelser, Chris Garrett and coxswain Emily Freudenberg, in fourth place.
The men’s quad of Simpson, Parr, Garrett and Lingenfelser was third in 3:42.5. The GHS men’s novice four placed fifth and the second four placed sixth.
