GHS rowers capture gold at scholastics

The Gloucester High School crew had great results in the Eastern Virginia Scholastic Rowing Association Championships held Sunday in Norfolk. The girls won two races and were runners-up in a third while the boys placed first and second.
The second four of Emma Malise, Rachel Whitt, Ashleigh Dough, Emily Poole and coxswain Amber Stieber won their race by 13 seconds with a time of 5:48. The lightweight four of Casey Martin, Mackenzie Marbain, Maddy Hogge, Kassidy Brown and coxswain Emily Freudenburg won their race in 5:23.7. Maddie Lee and Bailey Hamilton were second in the double in 5:50.5.
For the boys, Russell Simpson, Taylor Dough, Zack Moore and Aaron Parr won the quad race with a time of 4:36.8 and finished 11 seconds ahead of the runners-up. The novice four ‘A’ boat with rowers John Cooper, Jordan Dickey, Justin Poole and David Sadikova and coxswain Gage Holland was second in 5:39.6.
