Eleventh and 12th grade Intro to Criminal Justice students at Gloucester High School got a chance to experience the criminal justice system in the place where it all happens, the Gloucester Circuit Court courtroom, holding a daylong mock trial last Wednesday. At left, Austen Hogan stands at the podium to deliver closing arguments for the prosecution. Fellow prosecution team member Maddox Howell is seated next to Gloucester’s Chief Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney (and newly elected Mathews Commonwealth’s Attorney) Marie Walls. Behind them all is GHS teacher Gene Schoeck. Above, the defense team included, from left, Landon Morris, Assistant Gloucester Commonwealth’s Attorney Rebecca Roeberg (who played the role of a defense attorney) and Ayden Shaffer, with Samantha Linaweaver, below, portraying defendant Dannie McGrew.
