Rowing teams from Gloucester and Mathews captured gold, silver and bronze medals this past weekend at the 2024 Virginia State Rowing Championship Regatta.
Fifty-two teams, with a total of 234 entries, competed in 70 races in this year’s state championship regatta, which was held on Saturday at the Sandy Run Regional Park in Occoquan.
The gold medal went to the MHS Women’s Junior Double of Scarlet Johnson and Sydney Kollar. Gloucester’s Jacob Gross took second place in the Men’s Junior Single, while Mathews struck silver with a time of 6:00.1 in the Men’s Junior 4X. Gloucester had the only local bronze finish for the two teams, in the Women’s Junior 2X race won by Mathews.
