GHS men’s double captures gold at EVSRA Championships

The Gloucester High School crew placed first in one event and second in two others during the Eastern Virginia Scholastic Rowing Association Championships Saturday on Lake Whitehurst in Norfolk. Gloucester rowers made it out of their heats in 10 races.

Jacob Cheatham and Chris Smith combined for the only Gloucester gold, winning the men’s double by over seven seconds in 4:57.2. The varsity four of Mikaela Extine, Hannah Cagle, Emily Freudenberg, Madison Hogge and coxswain Meagan Martin won their heat and went on to place second in the final in 5:37.6.

 

Also placing second was the varsity eight of Logan Hutson, Russell Simpson, Taylor Dough, Adam Hedrick, Zach Moore, Aaron Parr, Cheatham, Smith and Martin at coxswain. They posted a time of 4:16.9.
