The Gloucester High School indoor track and field team competed in the Region 5B Championship last Thursday in Hampton, placing third overall at the event. Eight of Gloucester’s athletes secured trips to states thanks to their performances.
Mya Baker claimed the title of regional champion in both the girls’ 1,000-meter and 3,200-meter runs. The other Duke to claim two regional championships was Rylan Allcorn in the boys’ 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter runs. Samantha Linaweaver was crowned regional champion in the girls’ pole vault.
Others headed to states next weekend are Mackenzie Alcorn (girls’ 3,2000-meter), Jaida Peet (girls’ shot put), Hannah Broadwell (girls’ 1,600-meter), Chloe Sylvester (girls’ 3,200-meter) and Xavier Johnson (boys’ triple jump).

In the girls’ 55-meter dash, Deziray Bellinger took 10th overall with a time of 7.7 seconds.
In the girls’ 500-meter dash, Reese Miller finished in sixth with a time of 1:29.22.
