GHS indoor track competes at regional meet

The Gloucester High School track team brought its indoor season to a close at the VHSL Class 4 Region A Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday and Saturday at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton.

On Friday, the meet started with the field events. Dukes competed in both the boys’ triple jump finals and the boys’ shot put. Xavier Johnson competed in the boys’ triple jump finals, where he placed sixth with a jump of 41’7”.
In the boys’ shot put, Austin Halterman placed seventh with a throw of 38’11”, Trevor Burke placed 10th with a throw of 34’4.5” and Colby Morris placed 12th with a throw of 30’10”.
After the field events, the running events followed starting with the 55-meter hurdle preliminaries. Malik Johnson qualified for the boys’ 55mh finals that were held on Saturday.
In the girls’ 55-meter dash preliminaries, Deziray Bellinger placed 16th with a time of 7.83 and Amari Hunt placed 21st in 8.44.
