GHS indoor track athletes turn in season best performances

The Gloucester High School Indoor Track and Field teams competed in their last regular season meets on Wednesday, Jan. 31, at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton.
The biggest performances of the night came from Jahdai Donald, who threw 32 feet in the shot put and Steven Byrd, who ran the 55-meter dash in 6.9 seconds. Automatic state qualifying throw for the girls’ shot put is 33’2” and automatic state qualifying time for the boys’ 55 meters is 6.68.
“We finished our regular season with another good showing overall,” head coach Stanley Hundley said. “On the girls’ side, we had 10 seasons best and on the boys’ side we had 11 seasons bests.”
For the girls, Ellary Miller and Avery Herrin both gained season bests in the 55-meter dash. Miller ran a time of 8.35 and Herrin ran a time of 8.91. In the 300-meter dash, Herrin ran a season best of 51.29 seconds. In the 1,000-meter run, Hannah Symonds placed eighth running a season best time of 3:57.82.
