GHS indoor track athletes have good first season under new alignment

Gloucester High School indoor track athletes had a good first season competing in the new VHSL alignments. The season culminated with two senior athletes—pole vaulter Wendy Sparrer and long jumper Natalia Bueker—earning all-state honors. Sophomore Jasmin Scott also advanced to the state meet. 
These three state meet participants wasted no time in setting the bar high early on. In the first meet among former Peninsula District teams on Dec. 9 at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton, Scott was first in the 500 meter dash with a regional and state meet qualifying time of 1:18.51.
Sparrer also was first in that early meet by clearing 8’6” in the pole vault and qualifying for the regional event. Bueker won the long jump with a leap of 16’6”.
The GHS athletes continued to prepare over four other meets prior to entering the first Conference 10 Indoor Track Meet on Feb. 6 at Boo Williams. The girls placed fourth overall and the GHS boys were fifth.&nb...
