The Gloucester High School girls’ tennis team won its first two Peninsula District matches of the season. The Lady Dukes swept Heritage, 8-0, on Friday and got by Menchville, 5-4, on Tuesday.
Gloucester’s first-seed Christine Riddett defeated Menchville’s Kendel Crump 6-0, 6-1 and second-seed Olivia Edwards defeated Amber Blount in straight 6-3 sets. Nicolle Conry at number three for the Dukes defeated Alayah Austin 6-3, 7-4, and freshman Hope Warren at four bested Tiara Powell 6-2, 6-1.
Katie Masiak at five defeated Tacara Redfore 6-2, 6-0, and sixth-seed Jordan Simpson defeated Jayla Tisdale in straight 6-1 sets. In doubles play, Riddett and Edwards beat Crump and Austin, 8-5, Masiak and Simpson teamed to beat Blount and Powell, 8-6, and Warren and Rebecca Bish defeated Redfore and Tisdale, 8-5.
