The Gloucester High School varsity girls posted a win and a tie in recent Peninsula District soccer action. The Dukes tied Kecoughtan, 1-1, on Friday and dominated Hampton 11-1 on Tuesday.
Five minutes into the first half with the Warriors, Delaney Doyle found the back of the net to give the Dukes a 1-0 advantage. In a very physical match, both teams fought to control the ball.
The lead stood up until late in the second half when a Gloucester defender was called for a foul in the goalie box. Kecoughtan was able to tie it with the ensuing penalty kick. The game remained notched through two overtime periods and ended at 1-1.
The Dukes jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first half with the Crabbers on Tuesday. Carrie Adams scored with an assist from Marianne Warrington before Warrington scored from 25 yards out. Mary Williams and Hannah Harris each scored twice and Gloucester goals came from Ashley Yeatts and Lauren Orga.
