GHS girls blast by Phoebus, 36-0

Gloucester High School varsity softball players pounded the Phoebus Phantoms with a 36-run shutout in the Peninsula District season opener for both teams Tuesday. Taylor Distefano pitched a five-inning perfect game for the Dukes, striking out 14 of the 15 batters she faced. She also contributed two doubles, a single and five RBIs.

Hannah Joyce had five hits on the day with a triple, a pair of doubles and seven RBIs and Jillian Everett and Ashley Williams combined for five hits and 10 RBIs. Also having multiple hits were Amber Cook, Makayla Jenkins, Kasey Von Engle, Brittany Balderson and Coleen Lemay.

The Dukes have their first home game Friday with a host of the Hampton Crabbers at 4:30 p.m. before traveling to meet Bethel on Tuesday.
