Gloucester High School varsity field hockey players looked to add the Peninsula District Tournament crown to their regular season championship title this week.
The top-seeded Gloucester girls blanked Bethel, 4-0, in the tournament semifinals at Christopher Newport University on Tuesday. The Dukes held a 3-0 halftime advantage and added another goal in the second half. Kayla Sadler scored twice in the win and Gloucester got goals from Tori Harwood and Courtnie Greene.
In a very physical match-up, Kecoughtan got by Menchville, 2-1, and was scheduled to take on Gloucester in the tournament final yesterday evening at CNU. Both teams are headed to the Eastern Region Tournament in Virginia Beach next week, with Gloucester slated to play a yet-to-be-determined opponent on Tuesday afternoon.
