The Gloucester and Mathews girls’ basketball teams faced off on Monday at GHS, with the two squads each coming away with a win—the JV Lady Devils took the opener, 30-19, while the varsity battle was won by Gloucester, 45-27.
JV game
In the JV matchup, the Lady Devils took control from the opening tipoff, holding Gloucester to seven first-half points, going into the locker room up, 14-7. Mathews maintained the margin in the second half, outscoring GHS 16 to 12 to take the win. The top scorer for Mathews was Elizabeth Moore, who provided 22 of the Devils’ 30 points.
Varsity
In the varsity game, the two teams battled back and forth in the first half, with Gloucester going into the locker room with a 14-9 edge. Gloucester took control in the second half for the win.
