The Gloucester High School varsity field hockey team picked up a pair of wins in recent action, defeating the Western Branch Bruins, 5-2, in a road game Friday and coming home to shut out Kecoughtan, 10-0, on Tuesday.Western Branch
The Dukes struck early in the first period going up, 1-0. The Bruins countered with a goal of their own before the Dukes scored two more to take a 3-1 lead. Western Branch crept closer with a goal before the start of fourth period. The Dukes settled in for the fourth period and earned 11 penalty corners to slow the game and execute on two very well run corner plays for the final score of 5-2.
The team showed more consistent play by having five different goal scorers. Goals were scored by Hannah Symonds, Mackenzi Reece, Ady Jeffrey, Charlotte Houtz, and goal-winning Abby Junker.
