The Gloucester High School varsity softball team defeated both of its opponents in the past two weeks, not giving up a single run in either game.
Gloucester took advantage of six hit batters and eight walks by the Warwick Raiders’ pitching staff in its 18-0 win last Thursday. Sadie Bowden pitched her second straight shutout and also had three hits, including two doubles.
The Lady Dukes scored five first-inning runs as Hannah Horsley had an RBI triple, Makayla Hernandez had an RBI double and Shyanne Carlton had an RBI single. Samantha Carlton contributed an RBI double in the second inning and Shyanne Carlton had an RBI triple in the fourth inning.
Bowden gave up two hits while striking out four batters in her five-inning stint. Shyanne Carlton and Hernandez each had two RBIs in the final inning.
Phoebus
The Phoebus Phantoms forfeited to Gloucester May 16. The Lady Dukes played Phoebus the following Thursday, defeating the Phantoms, 25-0.
