The Gloucester High School crew closed its 2013 season at the Stotesbury Regatta in Philadelphia, Pa., last week where neither of the GHS entries made it to the finals in the highly competitive field.

The GHS four of Russell Simpson, Zack Moore, Taylor Dough and Aaron Parr, with coxswain Meagan Martin, placed 23rd in trials and beat every other entry from Virginia but did not advance.

The freshman eight of Madi Hutson, Kara Smith, Maddie Lee, Bailey Hamilton, Maddy Hogge, Tia Ilog, Mackenzie Marbain and Kaitlyn Thompson, with coxswain Chase Holland, placed 10th among 33 teams to advance to the semifinals. In the semis, the Gloucester girls finished fourth and did not advance to the finals.

Some of the GHS crew will compete in the summer season, either with the Mobjack Rowing Association or the Gloucester Rowing Association.
