Gloucester varsity baseball players got by Kecoughtan, 2-1, at GHS on April 24. The game was scoreless until the top of the fifth inning when the Warriors went up, 1-0.
The Dukes responded in the sixth, when singles from Ethan Sabo, Adam Baldwin and Jacob Houston loaded the bases for Josh Martin. A sacrifice fly from Martin scored Sabo to tie it, 1-1. Michael Clements started on the mound but Houston took over in the seventh and sat down the side, leaving it to the offense to finish the game.
With two outs, Tyler Wood and Sabo walked and Clements was hit by a pitch to load the bases again. After throwing a strike to Baldwin, the Kecoughtan pitcher threw four balls to give the Dukes a game-winning walk-off run. Gloucester stood at 10-6 going into this week’s game with Phoebus.
