The Gloucester High School indoor track team started the winter season with the Icebreaker Invitational hosted by the Peninsula District at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton on Friday and Saturday.
Eleven of the Gloucester athletes—Blake Waters, Emily Manzanares, Cameron Cross, Tyler Price, Carrie Adams, Stephanie McNeal, Troy Thomas, Devin Berry, Seth Lucas, Micah VanNess and Adam Hedrick—set personal records in the meet. Head coach John Perrin said he was thrilled with the progress of his team so early in the season.
Six of the Dukes had district meet qualifying performances. Kayla Sadler placed third with a time of 3:29 in the 1,000-meter dash, Kevin Speray was fourth with 4:56 in the 1,600-meter race, Leah Procopi qualified with a time of 14:13 in the 3,200-meter run, Malcolm Breckenridge qualified by clearing 5’8" in the high jump and twins Torie and Troy Thomas cleared 10 feet and eight feet, respectively, to qualify in the pole vault.
