GHS athletes qualify for state track meet

The Gloucester High School track and field teams had great performances at the VHSL 4A Outdoor Track and Field Regional Championships on May 22-23 at Lakeland High School in Suffolk. The Dukes left the meet with state-qualifying marks, school records and season’s bests.
“Watching you all give it your absolute all was truly inspiring. The dedication, grit, and teamwork were on another level,” said head coach Stanley Hundley.
There were multiple state qualifiers for the girls. Deziray Bellinger beat the school record in the 200-meter dash prelims in a time of 25.68 to place third. She also placed third in the 200-meter dash finals with a time of 25.91. Bellinger also qualified for states in the 100-meter dash prelims with a season best time of 12.51, placing fourth and almost beating her own school record in that event as well. She came back to the finals and ran a 12.56, placing third. Mya Baker qualified for states in the 800-meter run with her fourth-place finish in a time of 2:28.37....
