GHS alums take the collegiate field

Three Gloucester High School graduates and former GHS softball standouts have taken to the collegiate field this season.
Senior Lauren Tobin (GHS Class of 2019) led the Meredith Avenging Angels in an 8-7 win over the Denison Big Red this past Saturday. Tobin hit a walk-off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning to carry the Avenging Angels to victory. Tobin is currently hitting a .353 this season.
Junior Mackenzie Smith (GHS Class of 2020) is hitting a .294 for the Winthrop Eagles. Smith has already achieved a home run and seven RBIs this season. Smith is also 1-0 on the mound with a 2.33 earned run average (ERA) after pitching six strong innings against Texas State, only giving up one earned run.
Freshman Jayanna Richards (GHS Class of 2022) picked up her first collegiate win when she pitched for Richard Bland Community College in a relief appearance. Richards also picked up her first hit in college against Brunswick Community...
