George Warren Franklin passed away peacefully on the morning of Thursday, July 20, 2023, in his home in Gloucester, Va. He is survived by his sister, Beth Haskell, and his nephews, Warren Haskell and Matthew Haskell. George lived his life on his own terms from his first days to his last, and was a deeply inquisitive lifelong learner. He was especially passionate about exploring the land, waterways, history, and people of Gloucester County and the Middle Peninsula. He was happiest on the waters of the Chesapeake Bay whether hunting, fishing, or looking for arrowheads. The family would like to thank Charlie Dunston for his friendship and aid to George for many years and through his final days. A gathering of friends is being hosted by his family at Olivia’s at Gloucester Court House (6597 Main St.) from 3-5 p.m. on Monday, July 31. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Gloucester Community Foundation–The Monty Haskell Fund, P.O. Box 2303, Gloucester, Va. 23061; note Haskell Fund on check.
