George Hughes of Bena suddenly departed this life on Friday, May 16, 2014, of a heart attack surrounded by his family. George was born Sept. 27, 1933 to Wilfred and Thelma Hughes in Philadelphia, Pa. George worked for Excelsior Process and Engraving for 30 years as a supervisor in North Adams, Mass. He moved to Bena, Va., in 2001 to enjoy his retirement. George enjoyed fishing, traveling and spending time with his family. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and spirited grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilfred and Thelma Hughes; sister, Florence Walls; and son-in-law, Robert Ash.
As his legacy lives on, he leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife Anna; daughter Linda Hall and husband Bruce of North Adams, Mass.; daughter Deborah Ash of Bena, Va.; four grandchildren, Bruce Hall of North Adams, Mass., Shelly Hughes and husband, Randy of Midwest City, Okla., Jason Dustin and wife Vanessa of Cobbs Creek, Va., and Robert Ash of Bena, Va.; seven great-grandchildren, Wesley and Nicholas Quisenberry, Gavin and Adam Dustin and Gregory, Christopher and Katie Hall; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The family received friends and family from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at Hogg Funeral Home, Gloucester Point. Interment will be private.
