George B. Hyde, age 74, of Cobbs Creek, Va., died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, as result of an automobile accident on Oct. 28, 2013.
He was born on July 13, 1939 in Washington, D.C., and moved to Cobbs Creek in 1948. He graduated from Mathews High School in 1957 and served in the United States Air Force for 10 years.
After obtaining his commercial pilot’s licenses, he worked for Ram Aviation as a flight instructor and charter pilot. He retired as a truck driver in 2011 from Commercial Carrier Corporation.
He was predeceased by his father, George A. Hyde; mother, Lois Whiting Hyde, and his step-mother, Sarah Thomas Hyde.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis E. Hyde; two daughters, Debra Lois Hyde, and Theresa Rose Thompson and her husband Tim of Richmond, Va.; brother, Charles R. Hyde and his wife Phebe of Cobbs Creek; two step-sons, George Wayne Gibson and wife Vicky, and Glenn Michael Gibson and wife Sandy; five step-grandchildren; one nephew, and one niece.
The family received friends on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at Foster-Faulkner Funeral Home, 160 Main Street, Mathews, Va. A funeral service was conducted in the funeral home chapel by the Rev. DeDe Parrish of Beulah-St. Paul United Methodist Church on Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2013, at 11 a.m.; burial followed in H.C. Smither Memorial Cemetery, Hudgins, Va.
