Genealogy workshops at library next month

October is National Family History Month, and Mathews Memorial Library is presenting a free four-part workshop series to help individuals effectively research and compile their family history.
The workshops will take place from 10 a.m. to noon on four successive Wednesdays, Oct. 2, 9, 16, and 23. Participants will be using the library’s vast collection of materials, records, and online databases.
The series kicks off on Oct. 2 with a session that covers the genealogical and historical resources in the Chesapeake Room and the Mathews Archives, where the lives of the people of Mathews County, as well as all Virginians, are documented. 
The Oct. 9 workshop covers how to utilize the online resources at Ancestry Library Edition and Heritage Quest, two premier collection databases for genealogical and historical research.
