All this week, Gloucester County Public Schools has been holding informational listening sessions to engage in open conversations with the community and present an overview of the system’s strategic planning.
The first session was held Monday evening in the Abingdon Elementary School cafeteria where GCPS Superintendent Dr. Anthony Vladu explained the division’s strategic goals. Top priorities of the division are safety (emotional, mental health and wellness); operations; school, family and community relationships; and instruction and academic achievement.
In regards to instruction and academic achievement, the division is focused on increasing reading and math skills at the elementary level to set students up for future success.
“Reading is the gateway to success,” said Vladu. “Math is the gateway to success.”
The division is also looking at ways for students to prepare for life after high school through both academic and workforce readiness programs.
