Garden club creates arrangement for statewide exhibit

The Garden Club of Gloucester and Mathews created a floral arrangement for the recent “History Blooms” exhibition held at the Virginia Museum of History and Culture in Richmond.
The exhibition was sponsored by the Garden Club of Virginia, which invited its member clubs to take part. The local club decided to take part illustrating the theme “The Land of the Life Worth Living.”
According to a release, arrangers Nina Watkins, Ceci Brown and Tina McManus designed an arrangement to signify “what is most recognizable for our area.” They found a boat-shaped container at a thrift shop, painted it, attached it to a stand, and filled it with moss, mums, dahlias, Veronica, sedum, cattails, wheat, and daffodil bulbs. Tina McManus added “bees” made of Hypericum and money plant. “The result was a feast for the eyes and a stunning example of our region,” the release said.
