The Gwynn’s Island Museum will be opening at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 4, for the 2025 season, featuring family memorabilia and many artifacts representing the long history of the island.
The founding of the museum and history of the building in which it is housed is a story in itself, said a press release. In 1991, the museum opened in the Gwynn’s Island Cultural Center, sharing space with the Gwynn’s Island Civic League. But museum organizers quickly learned that more space was needed and, thanks to a generous donation of the former Odd Fellows Lodge and a fundraising effort by the community, the museum has been housed in its current location since 1994. The 1890s building previously served the community as a lodge and school, as well as a general store and barbershop with living quarters upstairs.
