Another year of COVID-19 infections means another year of event cancellations and modifications for the Gloucester and Mathews communities.
The 2021 Gwynn’s Island Festival has already been canceled; last year, the committee didn’t announce the event’s cancellation until April.
“As the new year arrived, the Gwynn’s Island Civic League and Festival Committee has been optimistic as we have been monitoring the COVID-19 pandemic and are encouraged with the progression over the past few months with the availability of vaccinations,” said G.I. Festival chair Jan Bassett.
“Unfortunately, with travel bans, continued limits on gatherings, and high COVID-19 case numbers still impacting many areas, we have decided the best course of action to ensure the continued safety of our community, our vendors and our patrons is to cancel the 2021 Gwynn’s Island Festival,” Bassett said.
