The Mathews County Board of Supervisors and more than a dozen members of the Mathews Volunteer Fire Department held a joint workshop last Thursday to discuss plans for the future MVFD Station 1.
Slated to be built on 7.839 acres at Mogers Corner, the firehouse will be on property adjacent to Mathews High School and the Lennon Dental Center.
Fire department president Donnie Lewis, Chief Ronnie Lewis, and Assistant Chief Steve Ray shared a slideshow with supervisors and took turns outlining the need for the new building and some possible plans that they think would suit their purposes.
Donnie Lewis said that the location of the current Station 1 puts it “in the middle of the mix” for weekend activities. When the downtown area is congested and people have limited parking available, he said, people have at times parked on the ramp in front of the bays.
