Funding for schools, nonprofits revisited by board

The Gloucester County Board of Supervisors took another look at funding for Gloucester County Public Schools, as well as local nonprofits, at its budget work session Tuesday night, held in the colonial courthouse.
The proposed budget includes a 4.3 cent tax increase to support general fund operations, but does not incorporate many other budgetary requests.
“There’s additional requests that are out there that would take the tax increase higher,” said County Administrator Carol Steele during the meeting.
The schools are requesting an additional $2 million from the board to cover numerous items, including student device replacements ($526,240) and Community Eligibility Provision Program/food service support ($450,000). The CEP program allows all students to receive free breakfast and lunch at school across the division.
