Sharon Frye of Port Haywood has announced her candidacy for a seat on the Mathews County School Board.
Frye said it is of prime importance that students and teachers have a safe and supportive teaching and learning environment. Teachers deserve respect and appreciation for their hard work and dedication, she said, and they deserve compensation to the full extent that the county’s budget allows, “taking into consideration the constraints of a limited tax base and declining school enrollment.”
The community must work together with the schools to instill in students the importance of education to their future careers and financial stability, their general well-being, and their contributions to society, said Frye.
“I would like to see Mathews County become known for excellence in our school system,” she said, “so that our children will return here to live and raise their own children, and new families will also be attracted to our community.”
