In the Tabernacle area of Mathews there’s a farm where once students learned how to ride and care for horses. Today, the entrance sign reads Georgetown Farm Flowers and has a retail stand below. Missy Johnson, the owner, was the teacher and trainer and in time pursued her love of flowers and became a gardener. She still has a love for horses. “You know, Grace Hall (a well-known teacher of horseback riding in Mathews) taught me how to ride when I was young.” They both were living elsewhere for a while, but “it was so nice to find her again in Mathews.”
To begin her new adventure in 2019 which began as a hobby that’s grown, Missy worked with Ruthie’s House of Flowers in Gloucester. She learned what should be planted and how to do so. Today with Missy doing her own organic gardening, she has made public her flowers and floral work at the Bay School and farmers’ markets.
