Free redbud tree seedlings available locally

Starting this week, Gloucester residents looking to do some fall planting can pick up free redbud tree seedlings at Gloucester Library, Main Street Center, or at the Clean Community Committee Office in the Stewart Building at 6382 Main Street.
Mathews residents can pick up their trees at the Mathews Visitor and Information Center. Trees will be available only during normal operating hours of each facility.
The Middle Peninsula Master Naturalists recently received a donation of 1,500 redbud tree seedlings from Dominion Energy’s Project Plant It!, an environmental stewardship program that promotes planting trees and learning about the benefits of trees to the ecosystem. Master Naturalist volunteers are now distributing the trees to residents of Gloucester, Mathews, Middlesex, King and Queen, and King William counties in time for fall planting.
Arrangements are still being finalized for pick up locations in the other three counties.
