Free flu shots will be offered for adults and teenagers from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at Mathews Volunteer Rescue Squad building at Hudgins.
Those aged 13-18 must be accompanied by a parent to receive the vaccine because there will be paperwork to fill out, said Three Rivers emergency preparedness planner Steve Puckett.
No vaccine will be available for children under age 13, he said, adding that the Drive-Thru Mass Immunization Exercise is being funded by a Virginia Department of Health grant that only provides 250 doses of the specified vaccine.
Puckett said the exercise will enable health workers to experience planning for and carrying out a mass inoculation such as might be needed if there were a widespread outbreak of an infectious disease.
