Franklin (Frank) D. West, age 87, of Ware Neck, passed away suddenly in Richmond at Bon Secours Regional Memorial Hospital on Thursday, August 8, 2024. He was a 1956 graduate of Gloucester High School. He worked as a waterman in the James River before working at Cheatham Annex for over 30 years. He was a member of Singleton United Methodist Church where he loved the people there and willingly served in various compacities, from being a youth counselor to Sunday School secretary. One of his greatest joys was singing in the choir for over 50 years.
Frank loved vegetable gardening and giving produce to friends and relatives. He loved all sports—especially baseball, watching old shows and western movies on TV. Frank was an Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter J. West Sr. and Marion West; brother, Walter J. West Jr. (Buck); sister, Ann Haywood; sisters-in-law, Sue West and Ida West, and nephew Mathew West.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Hattie Robins West; son, Christopher “Scott” West (Brenda); granddaughter, Kristin Dennen (Dragdin); great-granddaughter, Sophia Dennen; his favorite feline companion, Tabby, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation with friends will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 18, at Singleton United Methodist Church followed by a Celebration of Life service conducted by Pastor Calvin Griffin at 4 o’clock. Interment will be private at a later date.
