The Mathews High School jayvee and varsity boys’ basketball teams picked up wins on the road Tuesday night at West Point High School.
Four Blue Devils scored double digits to lead the varsity Devils over the Pointers, 77-52. Mathews jumped out to an early lead, extending the gap to 35-14 at the half. With a comfortable lead, head coach Curtis Williamson was able to clear his bench and let everyone see some playing time.
Deondre Foster led the way with 21 points. He got a lot of support from teammates C.J. Kelly and Chase Kemp, who scored 16 points apiece, and Michael Cunningham, who ended the night with 12 points.
Carter Vrooman handled the ball well and added six points. Andre Carter scored four points and Deon Blake rounded out the scoring with two points. The Devils continue to struggle at the line scoring only 50 percent that evening.
