Foster announces candidacy for sheriff

Albert S. “Sid” Foster, 53, of Dutton, has announced his candidacy for Mathews County Sheriff in the Nov. 7 election.
Running as an independent, Foster said he envisions furthering his “commitment to the community with dedication to performance.”
In February, Sheriff Mark Barrick announced that he is not seeking a fourth term. Earlier this month, Investigator April Edwards of the Mathews County Sheriff’s Office announced her intention to run for the office.
Foster has more than two decades of law enforcement experience, beginning in October 2001, when he was hired as a deputy sheriff and successfully graduated from the Hampton Roads Criminal Justice Training Academy.
In the 21+ years that he has been with the Mathews County Sheriff’s Office, Foster has held a number of supervisory positions. After starting as a patrol deputy under former Sheriff Danny Howlett, he was promoted through the ranks to field training officer, patrol sergeant and captain/chief deputy.
