The Bread for Life Food Pantry in Gloucester had some extra hands on Wednesday, Nov. 18 when a group from Food Lion spent the day volunteering. Along with their time the crew from Food Lion also presented the food pantry with a $500 gift card.
Scott Hurst, manager of the Gloucester store, said that it’s Food Lion’s goal to give back to the community by getting food to those who struggle to afford it. Hurst said that the aim is to have a six-person crew volunteer at the food pantry once month.
Food Lion supports those in need with the Food Lion Feeds boxes. The $5 boxes are filled with food that is then donated to individuals, or to nonprofits such as Bread for Life. Hurst said that last year the Gloucester store was second in the region in total boxes sold, and that they’re still in the top five this year.
